Civil Union Bill passes second reading -

The Civil Union Bill, which would enable couples, both opposite-sex and
same-sex, to formalise their relationships, passed its second reading in conscience vote in Parliament this week, 65 votes to 55.

Mr Benson-Pope welcomed confirmation today by the Green Party that they have given their support to move Parliament into urgency for the Committee stages of the Civil Union Bill. All major political parties have confirmed they are treating the Civil Union Bill as a conscience issue, meaning MPs can vote freely on the issue.

An Open Letter to Don Brash -

You want a referendum on whether or not we have civil unions. If you were in 1933 Germany would you support a referendum on the rights of Jews and allow the majority of the population to determine the rights of the minority? I doubt you would since I'm sure you do not believe that individual rights are subject to majority approval. Human rights are not grants from the majority. Either people have a right or they don't. If they do then they have it regardless of the opinions of the majority.
