NZAF response to TVNZ Apology - 14-Jan-1996
Television New Zealand's (TVNZ) decision to apologise to John Jamieson of the Christian Democrats has deeply dismayed the New Zealand AIDS Foundation (NZAF). The apology was issued in response of a complaint about the use of the words anal intercourse on an item on the selection and use of condoms which appeared in the lifestyle show "Really Living".
Warren Lindberg, NZAF director, was reported in the NZ Listener as saying "It is not possible to prevent the further spread of this virus without providing people with accurate, specific information about the modes of transmission and practical preventive measures. How on Earth are we to apprise the public of this essential information if TVNZ is too coy to broadcast it? The virus certainly does not consider conventional notions of taste and decency when the opportunity for transmission occurs."
