Government to reconsider Peter Ellis case - 15-Dec-2008
Justice Minister Simon Power has agreed to consider a request for a Commission of Inquiry into the Peter Ellis case.
Former National Party leader Don Brash and former front-bench MP Katherine Rich, along with Dunedin author Lynley Hood, have written to the minister asking him to consider a fresh inquiry, warning that the conviction is continuing to impact on the legal system.
Power said this morning that he had received the letter and had asked officials to look into the matter.
"I've asked officials to give me some background and some advice," Power said. "I come to it with an open mind."
He did not wish to comment further on the possibility of a fresh inquiry until he had more information.
